Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy ordered an increase in the number of MMTS services during peak office hours and ensured strict adherence to schedules to improve reliability.

Emphasising the need to strengthen suburban rail connectivity in the core urban areas of Hyderabad, CM Revanth has directed officials to align MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) services with the needs of daily commuters.

Why is MMTS ridership decreasing, asks CM

The Chief Minister conducted a detailed review of MMTS services at the Legislative Council Hall.

During the meeting, he sought explanations from officials regarding the decline in passenger ridership and stressed the urgency of making the system more commuter-friendly.

MMTS stations lack proper road connectivity

Highlighting a major concern, the Chief Minister noted that many MMTS stations lack proper connectivity, particularly due to the absence of RTC bus access.

Since several stations are located away from main roads, he suggested exploring the operation of mini-buses to facilitate easier access for commuters.

‘Improve passenger amenities’

CM Revanth directed officials to ensure that all necessary passenger amenities are provided at MMTS stations. He observed that improved facilities would encourage more people to opt for MMTS services, thereby boosting ridership.

Call for revenue and service expansion plan

The Chief Minister also asked officials to explore ways to enhance internal revenue generation.

He instructed them to conduct a comprehensive study on improving last-mile connectivity, increasing passenger numbers, and upgrading facilities, and to submit a detailed report at the earliest.

The review meeting was attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, senior state government officials, and representatives from South Central Railway.
