Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the 5.320 km corridor for Rs 1,580 crore near Kandlakoya Junction on Saturday.

The state government has envisaged plans to solve traffic problems being faced by motorists of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and five districts of North Telangana.

The new road corridor will end the decades-long hardships faced by motorists on the National Highway (NH)-44. A metro rail line will also be built on this elevated corridor in the next phase.

The work for the first such double-decker corridor in the city will start today. Medchal-Malkazigiri, Medak, Kamareddy, Nirmal, and Adilabad and twin City dwellers and people traveling on NH 44 are struggling due to increasing vehicular traffic every day.

Over the years, restrictions in Cantonment areas created hurdles for road widening in Secunderabad and the Elevated Corridor. The previous government neglected the corridor proposal and failed to get permission from the Defence wing on political grounds.

After being elected as Malkajgiri MP in 2019, Revanth Reddy focused on corridor development and appealed to the union government to transfer the Defence lands to the state government and grant permission for the construction of elevated corridors.

Revanth Reddy, who was also the standing member of the Defence Ministry in the Parliament, always raised the issue of pending corridor projects and addressed the traffic woes.

Soon after assuming the charge as chief minister, Revanth Reddy paid special focus to the issue. He met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi on January 5 and requested to hand over the Defence land for the expansion of roads in the cantonment area in Hyderabad and also give permission for the construction of an elevated corridor.

The Defence wing responded positively and sent a letter to the state government on March 1 agreeing to the construction of elevated corridors. The state government immediately initiated the construction of elevated corridors.

Details of Elevated Corridor

The Corridor starts from Paradise Junction in Secunderabad on NH-44 and ends at Dairy Farm Road via Tadbund Junction and Boinapally Junction.

The total length of this corridor is 5.320 km. The elevated corridor will be developed on a 4.650 km stretch. The length of the underground tunnel will be 0.600 km. A total number of 131 Piers (pillars) would be laid.

The elevated corridor will be constructed in six lanes. Ramps will be constructed at two places near Bowenpally Junction (at 0.248 km) and (at 0.475 km) to facilitate the movement of traffic on the elevated corridor.

After the completion of corridor works, the metro rail line will be taken up on the elevated corridor. The new facility will provide safer, faster, and more comfortable journeys for travelers.

Benefits of elevated corridor

An average of 1,57,105 vehicles per day (passenger car unit per day -PCU) are plying at Paradise Junction in the area where the elevated corridor is being constructed. While 72,687 vehicles are plying near ORR Junction.

Motorists and people in those areas are facing regular problems due to narrow roads with a high density of vehicular traffic. People are also losing precious lives due to frequent road mishaps.

The passengers are also under stress for not reaching their destinations due to heavy traffic jams. Fuel consumption burden is also high during traffic jams.

The construction of the elevated corridor will save time, reduce the cost of fuel, and save many lives.
