Hyderabad: Ahead of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting scheduled for Saturday, Hyderabad has become the battleground for a fierce poster war between the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Using the posters, the parties have levelled allegations of corruption and unfulfilled promises against each other.

Posters dubbing the CWC as a ‘Corrupt Working Committee’ have been plastered across the city. The posters displayed names of prominent members of the Congress party accused of corruption. One poster reads, “Beware of scamgress scammers.” Posters in many areas of the city, allegedly made by the Congress party, displayed chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao with the caption “BookmyCM”.

Comparing promises and actions

The poster war also included a list of unfulfilled promises alleged by the Congress and the BRS against each other.

One poster mentioned that during Congress’ rule, then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi promised national status for the Palamuru Rangareddy Project but failed to deliver. It highlights how KCR successfully completed the project’s trial run on the very day of the CWC meeting. Another poster accuses Congress of deceiving minorities, referencing to promises made during their 2004-2014 tenure regarding Scheduled Caste categorisation.

Historic meeting outside Delhi

Meanwhile, the Congress party leaders from across the country are participating in the CWC meeting where agendas for the upcoming national and state-level elections will be discussed. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his enthusiasm, stating it would be the first CWC meeting since his appointment in October the previous year.

Key leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are expected to attend discussions on the upcoming elections in five states and strengthen the party.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, while acknowledging that six invitees would not be attending to due personal difficulties, assured that 84 attendees, including four chief ministers, would be present. He said that the Congress mega rally on September 17 would be a hit, where Congress would announce six guarantees for the Telangana Assembly elections.

The CWC meeting, to be presided over by Mallikarjun Kharge, holds historical significance, as it is the first time in many years that the party convened outside Delhi.

The meeting, scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm, aimed at building strategies for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, with top party brass like Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Sachin Pilot, and Gaurav Gogoi in attendance.

In the midst of this political showdown, Pawan Khera, a prominent Congress figure, made a statement shedding light on their stance regarding certain news anchors. He said, “We have not banned the anchors. It’s the wrong term to use. The INDIA alliance has decided to not co-operate with certain anchors.”
