Hyderabad: Narsingi police on Tuesday arrested a head constable for cheating people on the pretext of providing government jobs.

Identified as Boya Shaik Shavali, 42, he had extracted Rs 1.68 crore from gullible people.

A native of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, Boya Shaik Shavali previously worked as constable at Police Line Amberpet. The accused met with an accident in 2019 and since then he has been on sick leave.

According to the police, his modus operandi included approaching jobless people and flaunting his proximity with former and current CMs of Andhra Pradesh. Later he used to extract money from aspirants promising government jobs.

On October 7, police received a complaint from Devadurgam Narasimha, a resident of Vyas Nagar. The complainant stated that he had completed his studies and was in search of a job. The accused and complainant's uncle Venkata Narayana were batch mates. Venkata Narayana arranged a meeting with accused Boya Shaik Shavali at their house at Vyas Nagar.

The accused made them believe that he knows everyone in the Collectors Office as he has worked as Personal Security Officer (PSO) to former and current CMs of Andhra Pradesh.

He told Narasimha that he can get him appointed as Assistant Manager in AP GENCO. However, he sought Rs. 10 lakh. The complainant transferred money to his wife Rajitha's account in installments.

After receiving the money, Shaik Shavali adopted dilly-dallying tactics. Later Shaik Shavali stopped taking his calls. When the complainant probed, he came to know that Shaik Shavali had cheated others as well.

Police said the accused took an amount of Rs. eight lakh from one of his distant relatives Karre Konda Santosh of Nizamabad district promising to get him appointed as a police constable.

Police said the accused purchased three lorries, two houses, and a plot. Since he was falling short of money to buy a flat, the accused had obtained House Building Loan from UCO Bank, Nagole. To obtain a loan, he prepared a fake ID card and claimed to be working as Additional SP, Intelligence (Security).

Narsingi police arrested the accused on Tuesday. Police said the accused has collected Rs. 1.68,00,000 and the details of other victims are being verified.
