Hyderabad: The Uppal PS Patrol staff rescued a person from dying by suicide, after they found about the attempt being broadcast live on Facebook.

Police said that on the night of 13 December, they received a 100 call stating that a person is attempting suicide live on Facebook. The IT cell immediately traced the location to RTC Colony, Ramanthapur. The police rushed to the spot and stopped Boga Ravikanth, 31, from hurting himself. They found cuts on his wrist from the attempt and he was immediately taken to a hospital for medical care.

Police said that Ravikanth wanted to be a photographer and had also invested considerably in buying the equipment. But he had become addicted to alcohol and had to sell his cameras to support his habit. Depressed about his life, he decided to kill himself live on Facebook in his room where he stayed alone.

The Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda Mahesh M. Bhagwat, IPS, appreciated the team for their timely response and gave them a cash reward.
