Crime report 2022: Rachakonda commissionerate sees rise in cyber crimes, conviction rate

By Amrutha Kosuru Published on 24 Dec 2022 2:37 PM GMTHyderabad: The crime rate in Rachakonda commissionerate increased by nearly 19% in 2022, revealed the annual report which was released on Saturday. It said 25,815 cases were registered in 2022; the figure was 21,685 cases in 2021.
Also, 6,674 cases were brought forward from earlier years that are under investigation. During the year 2022, 27,864 cases are reported. Of the total 34,538 cases, 28.522 cases (83%) have been resolved.
On the other hand, the conviction rate rose from 55% in 2021 to 59% in 2022; 267 convictions in contested cases, 22 of which are life sentences.
The Rachakonda police commissionerate covers an area of 5,091.48 sq. km. It has a population of 42 lakhs (approx). It has 43 police stations (law and order), two women police stations, one cyber crime cell, and eight traffic police stations.
Crimes against women
As per the annual report, the commissionerate saw a 25% increase in POCSO and molestation cases. The number of domestic violence cases also increased by 21.45%.
On the other hand, the number of rape and dowry death cases decreased by 1.33% and 5.88%, respectively.
Road accidents
The Rachakonda commissionerate saw a 19% increase in road accidents in 2022. A marginal rise of 0.16% was observed in fatal accidents while non-fatal accidents saw a higher rise (25.14%).
The number of deaths due to accidents decreased by 0.91% this year, according to the annual report.
Cyber crime
Similar to Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerates, the Rachakonda commissionerate also saw an increase in cyber crimes reported under its purview.
The number of cyber crime cases reported increased by 66% in the Rachakonda commissionerate. In 2022, 2,049 cases were reported. In 2021, 1,360 cyber crime cases were reported.
Some of the cyber crimes reported were 57 job or visa frauds, 56 social media, and 43 phishing crimes.
