Hyderabad: Cyberabad Joint CP (Traffic) D Joel Davis, IPS, along with other Road Transport department officers held a traffic awareness meeting on Tuesday with school correspondents at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.

In his address the joint CP said, the safety of the school children and traffic management in the IT sector are the top priority of the CTP.

The various issues discussed in the meeting are:

Safety

- Regular maintenance and inspections of school transport vehicles.

- Buses must be equipped with safety features such as seat belts, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and GPS tracking systems.

- Schools should conduct regular emergency procedures, including evacuation drills to prepare students and drivers for emergencies.

- Students must be educated on safe practices for boarding, riding, and disembarking from the bus.

- Supervising and monitoring safety practices and establishing communication between parents and school management.

- Road Safety awareness programs should be conducted for school children and School bus Drivers to develop road safety awareness among the children, parents and drivers. School management may seek assistance from the Traffic Training Institute (TTI), Cyberabad, for support.

Congestion

- Reducing traffic congestion issues in front of schools.

- Alighting points should be created at the school premises while the children drop and pick up, to avoid traffic congestion and to prevent untoward incidents.

- Deploying marshals in front of schools to manage traffic.

- Bus routes may be planned carefully to minimise travel time.

- Make sure while hiring the drivers for the school buses should be professional and should possess valid heavy vehicle driving licenses and develop a checking mechanism to prevent drunk driving, cell phone usage while driving etc.,

- The school managements were requested to arrange parking facilities at designated places. If the parking facility is not there in school, they should hire parking places.

- Asked the school management to go for staggered timings.

Other traffic-related issues

- The joint CP asked the schools' management to bring traffic-related issues to the notice of Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP).

- Commuters and schools' management may contact CTP to raise grievances and suggestions through WhatsApp number 7569311356.

- Failure to make proper arrangements and causing traffic congestion will be viewed seriously.
