Cyberabad: Police ask PG hostels to maintain records, install CCTVs for safety
Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police have made it mandatory for all paying guest (PG) hostels to maintain complete records of residents and install functional CCTV cameras at entry and exit points.
The cameras must remain operational at all times, and footage should be preserved as per norms for verification whenever required.
The police issued the directives as part of efforts to strengthen safety and regulatory compliance in hostel operations.
Awareness meeting with hostel management
An awareness meeting was organised at the Miyapur Police Station, bringing together hostel owners and operators.
During the interaction, police officials issued clear guidelines on safety measures and statutory compliance, stressing that there would be no compromise in implementation.
Inspector Shivaprasad directed that a dedicated proforma for each sector must be mandatorily followed by all hostels.
Complete details of residents mandatory
Hostel operators have been instructed to maintain detailed records of all residents, including students and working professionals. The records must include valid identity proofs, permanent residential addresses, and updated contact numbers of every occupant staying in the hostel.
Reporting suspicious activities
Hostel managements were advised to remain vigilant and promptly inform the police about any suspicious individuals or activities. Maintaining a visitors’ register was made compulsory, and operators were cautioned against allowing any anti-social activities on the premises.
Licences and legal clearances required
Police reiterated that PG hostels must obtain all mandatory permissions, including GHMC trade licences, FSSAI certification for food services, labour licences for staff, fire safety NOC, and valid building approvals.
Strict action for violations
Officials warned that there would be no leniency for violations. Hostels found flouting rules or operating without proper approvals will face strict legal action, the police said.
