Cyberabad police crack Renu Agarwal's murder; 3 held in Ranchi
Hyderabad: Cyberabad police have cracked the gruesome murder of a 50-year-old housewife at Swan Lake Apartments, Kukatpally.
The murder, committed by two domestic helpers with the aid of an accomplice, shocked the city earlier this week.
After a swift interstate operation, all three accused were arrested in Ranchi, Jharkhand, and key evidence was recovered.
Murder inside a High-Rise Flat
Disclosing the case details before the media persons at his office, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty said that on September 10, Rakesh Kumar Agarwal returned home to find his wife, Renuka Agarwal, dead in their flat.
Her throat had been slit, and her hands and legs tied. The horrific murder raised alarm in the gated community of Swan Lake Apartments.
“We immediately suspected the family’s house help, Harsh Kumar (20), and another worker, Roshan Singh (22), who was employed in a neighbouring flat. Both men were missing after the incident, further strengthening suspicion,” the Commissioner said.
Modus Operandi: Planned for Easy Money
Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, Avinash Mohanty said that the investigations revealed that the accused, both natives of Ranchi, had carefully observed the family’s movements.
Harsh Kumar worked in the victim’s flat, while Roshan Singh was employed in another flat in the same tower. They noted the timings when the husband and son left for work.
On September 10, once the family members had stepped out, the duo forced their way in, restrained Renuka by tying her hands and legs, and brutally slit her throat.
After murdering her, they looted gold ornaments, rolled-gold jewellery, cash, watches, and even took away the house key to avoid suspicion. They then fled to Ranchi, where their friend Raju Varma (19) sheltered them, he added.
Police Crackdown and Arrest
Cyberabad police registered a case under FIR No. 1203/2025 at Kukatpally PS and swung into action. CCTV footage from the apartment complex and surrounding areas confirmed the involvement of Harsh and Roshan.
Four special teams, comprising Kukatpally Police, CCS, and SOT, were formed and tracked the accused’s movements. With the help of Ranchi police, the trio were nabbed late at night in Jharkhand.
Recovery of stolen property
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. At their instance, police seized gold ornaments, watches (16), two mobile phones, rolled-gold jewellery, and house key of the complainant’s flat.
Criminal past of Roshan Singh
Investigators also unearthed Roshan Singh’s prior criminal record in Ranchi: Attempt to murder (Cr.No. 661/2023, Kothavalli PS), and two theft cases (Lalpur PS and Sukdevnagar PS, 2023).
Swift Coordination Paid Off
The Cyberabad Commissioner also said the swift detection and arrest was possible due to coordinated efforts between local police, CCS, SOT, and Jharkhand police. The accused are being produced before court on a transit warrant and will be brought back to Hyderabad for further investigation and trial, he added.
