Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, IPS, along with joint CP Traffic D Joel Davis IPS, and Ramesh Kaza, secretary general of SCSC have launched the first set of 83 traffic marshals in the IT Corridor and other parts of Cyberabad.
Who are traffic marshals?
The traffic marshal program is a pioneering initiative aimed at providing congestion-free traffic flow in the IT hub of Cyberabad.
Traffic Marshals will be paid by companies and trained and deployed by the police department. They are deployed at key junctions to regulate traffic. SCSC and other companies have contributed to this initiative and various other companies and IT Parks have promised their support to contribute to the Traffic Marshal Program.
The traffic marshals have been provided with a different set of uniforms with the traffic marshal logo printed on their uniform and a different cap. They would work during the peak hours of traffic, morning from 8 am to 11:30 am and in the evening from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
The programās objective is to ease daily commutes for citizens and ensure a safe and secure environment for industries to thrive. The Traffic Marshals are attached to different police stations of Cyberabad Traffic Police.
What is the role of traffic marshals?
The roles and responsibilities of the traffic marshals include:
- Directing vehicle passage
- Ensuring the smooth and safe flow of traffic within a designated area along with traffic police officers.
- Guiding pedestrian traffic to ensure safe passage, monitoring traffic flow identifying any congestion or bottlenecks and informing traffic police on duty immediately.
- Reacting to any accidents or incidents promptly and appropriately.
- Setting up and dismantling temporary traffic management systems, capturing traffic violations and reporting to the traffic police. These traffic marshals have been trained by the traffic training team of Cyberabad Police.
Speaking at the launch event, Avinash Mohanty said, āWe appreciate the support of SCSC and its member companies in this initiative. We urge all companies to join hands with us in making Cyberabadās traffic flow smooth and efficient. This is another example of Cyberabad Traffic Police and SCSC-IT Industry body working very closely and proactively for better regulation of traffic.ā
Joel Davis said, āThe Traffic Marshal Program is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships. We appeal to all companies to contribute to this initiative and help us create a better commuting experience for everyone.ā
Explaining the concept of the traffic marshals, Joel Davis said, that traffic marshals are a full-time paid team, dedicated to traffic regulation and will be deployed near all important traffic bottlenecks. This helps the Cyberabad Traffic Police focus their time and efforts on enforcing traffic rules like signal jumping, wrong-side driving, helmetless driving etc.
Rajesh Balaraju, traffic forum leader-designate, SCSC said, āThe launch of traffic marshals is a unique kind of initiative, a first such initiative by the IT Industry, anywhere in the country. Owing to the return to work by companies, traffic is growing by leaps and bounds each day in Cyberabad. To help address this issue 83 Traffic Marshals have been commissioned and this number is likely to reach 500 with the support of the industry.ā
Raheja Mind Space responded to the request made to the Industry and contributed with 30 Traffic Marshals. Commitments from Phoenix, Satva group and IT companies will see the deployment rise over the next few months.
