Hyderabad: A raid by the officials of the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) revealed the illegal manufacture of medicines under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’ at Chengicherla Village, Medipally Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District on Tuesday. Stocks worth Rs 5.5 lakhs were seized during the raid.

The officials found ‘Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid and Zinc Tablets’ being falsely manufactured under a food license with the brand name ‘Ferrous-XT Tablets’ at Maxtra Laboratories in Chengicherla. They were being illegally sold to medical shops.

In a separate investigation, a raid was carried out at an unlicensed premises at Petlaburj in Hyderabad, operating illegally without a drug license. During the raid, the DCA seized a substantial quantity of ‘steroid medicines’ from the premises. Stocks worth Rs 1.17 lakhs were seized during the raid.

Similarly, during a DCA raid, overpriced and misbranded antibiotic ointment ‘Mupitruss 5 gm’ (Mupirocin ointment 2% w/w) was seized at Hanumakonda. The MRP used by the shop was high compared to the ceiling price fixed for the product by the Union government.
