Dense fog alert: Cyberabad police caution commuters on ORR, Highways and city roads

Hyderabad: With dense fog reducing visibility during the winter season, the Cyberabad Police have issued a public advisory urging commuters to remain extra cautious on roads.

The police warned that foggy conditions significantly increase the risk of accidents, particularly on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), highways, and major arterial roads across the city.

The advisory places special emphasis on the safety of pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, stressing that alertness and patience are key to preventing mishaps during low-visibility hours, especially in the early mornings.

Advisory for pedestrians

Avoid venturing out during heavy fog unless absolutely necessary.

Always look both ways carefully before crossing the road.

Wear bright or reflective clothing; dark or dull colours reduce visibility for drivers.

Do not rush while walking on roads, particularly near junctions, curves, and intersections.

Staying off roads during dense fog is the safest option.

Guidelines for two-wheeler riders

Ride at reduced speeds and avoid sudden acceleration.

Wear reflective jackets and keep helmet visors clean.

Ensure headlights, fog lamps, and tail lamps are clean and switched on.

Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

Avoid using mobile phones or any distractions while riding.

Do not speed during early morning hours when fog is at its peak.

Safety tips for motorists

Use headlights and fog lights appropriately; avoid high beams.

Apply brakes smoothly—avoid sudden braking.

Switch on indicators well in advance while turning or changing lanes.

Keep windshields clean and use defoggers or anti-fog modes.

Avoid cruise control in foggy conditions.

Stick to lane markings and avoid frequent lane changes.

Turn on hazard lights only when the vehicle is stationary.

Ensure reflectors and reflective stickers on vehicles are clearly visible.

Carry an emergency kit with a torch, reflectors, and basic tools.

Ensure tyres have good grip and vehicles are well-maintained.

Extra caution on Highways and Rural Roads

Exercise additional care on ORR and highways where fog can be more intense.

Slow down near curves, junctions, and road obstructions.

Be alert for stray animals on rural roads.

In emergencies, stop only on the left lane and never halt abruptly.

Drivers are advised to be well-rested, as fatigue slows reaction time.

The Cyberabad Police have appealed to all commuters to strictly follow traffic rules and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed in fog-prone areas. “Alertness is safety,” the advisory reiterated, urging citizens to prioritize caution over speed during the winter fog season.
