Dileep Konathan questioned by cyber crime wing over post related to ‘communal clashes’

Hyderabad: Dileep Konatham, the former digital director of the Telangana government during the BRS regime, was questioned by the Cyber Crime wing of Hyderabad police for an X post related to Asifabad communal clashes. A criminal case has been registered against ‘unknown persons’ in connection with the social media post.

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by a person named R Nitish Kumar, a police constable at the cyber crime police station.

The complaint said, “I was browsing the Internet when I came across an X handle (@TeluguScribe) which has posted certain social media posts that have the potential to create religious tensions and promote communal disharmony. These posts are circulating on Twitter and contain disturbing clips of lighting up public property under the claim of religious disturbances. I request you to take necessary action against the individuals responsible for creating and sharing these posts.”

Based on this complaint, the cyber crime team registered a case against unknown persons under sections 66(C) (D) IT ACT and 196 BNS of the cyber crime police station, Hyderabad.

When NewsMeter spoke to the BRS leaders who visited the cyber crime police station after Dileep Konatham was picked up for questioning by the police, one of the leaders said, “The police were enquiring if Dileep Konatham was connected to an X handle Telugu Scribe or if he was part of the editorial. The X handle Telugu Scribe was not the only account that posted against Asifabad communal clashes. Many other accounts also posted damaging content. Why is no action being taken against them? Why selectively pick on the opposition.”
