Hyderabad: Around 50 people sustained eye injuries during the bursting of firecrackers on Diwali in Hyderabad.
Government-run Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital's outpatient department saw an influx of patients, with 8 requiring admission, including two children. Among the admitted patients, 5 individuals were specifically due to firecracker-related injuries.
Dr. Raja Lingam, the Superintendent at S D Eye Hospital, said, "We have set up teams comprising surgeons, nursing, and paramedical staff across our outpatient, inpatient, and emergency wings to attend to patients affected by firecracker injuries. Surgeons will assess the patient's conditions, making decisions about potential eye surgeries later in the day."
Concurrently, private eye-care hospitals including L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Maxivision, and Pushpagiri Eye Care Centre at Marredpally reported a surge in outpatient admissions on Monday, most of which are due to firecracker accidents.
āThe increase in eye injury cases during the festive period serves as a poignant reminder of the risks associated with firecrackers and the necessity for precautionary measures to ensure a safe and incident-free celebration,ā said Dr. Raja Lingam.
