Drive safely on ORR: New speed limits in place in Hyderabad

The maximum speed on Lane 1 and Lane 2 of the ORR will be increased from 100 kmph to 120 kmph and the minimum speed will be 80 kmph. These rules will come into force from July 28.

Here are the new rules on ORR speed limits; max speed is 120 kmph, minimum is 40

Hyderabad: To ensure safety for all permitted forms of transportation, the commissioner of police, Cyberabad M Stepehen Raveendra has issued a notification on speed limits on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hyderabad.

Here are the changes to speed limits on the ORR.

- The maximum speed on Lane 1 and Lane 2 of the ORR will be increased from 100 kmph to 120 kmph and the minimum speed will be 80 kmph. Lane 1 is the one closest to the central median.

- The maximum speed on Lane 3 and Lane 4 will be 80 kmph and the minimum speed will be 40 kmph.

- The minimum speed on the ORR will be 40 kmph. No vehicle will be permitted to travel on the ORR below this speed.

- Fast-moving vehicles should move on right lanes (Lanes 1 and 2) and slow vehicles should move on left lanes (Lane 3 and 4) within their speed range. Heavy vehicles should move on Lane 3 or Lane 4 only.

- Vehicles, when they change their speed, should change to the lane in that speed range. Zig-zag movement between lanes is not permitted.

- Vehicles should only change lanes by using indicator lights and by taking all precautions to avoid collisions.

- No vehicle shall stop on any of the 4 lanes of ORR. This includes vehicles stopping on the ORR to pick up or drop passengers.

- Pedestrians are not permitted to walk on any stretch of the ORR.

- Vehicles that need to stop for a human or mechanical emergency have to follow these specifications.

1. Park on the extreme left i.e. on the service lane.

2. Switch on hazard lights/parking lights and other lights to caution other vehicles.

3. Put up reflective signages/cones about 5m from the front and rear sides of the vehicle.

These actions are banned on the ORR

- Movement of 2 and 3-wheelers and 7-seater autos

- Wrong side driving

- Entry from exit roads

- Exit from entry roads

These rules came into effect on July 28.

“Traffic enforcement teams will be tracking vehicles violating the above norms and heavy fines will be imposed on violators. Any violations of these rules will be liable for prosecution under concerned sections of the MV Act, Indian Penal Code and the Cyberabad City Police,” said the commissioner.
