Drowsy AC bus driver crashes into divider near Beechupally; woman passenger dies, 4 hurt

Hyderabad: A tragedy occurred on Sankranthi festival after a 40-year-old woman Malathi from Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad burned to death after the Volvo AC sleeper bus she was travelling in overturned near Jogulamba Gadwal district on Saturday. Four other passengers were injured with two in critical condition.



The incident occurred on Saturday morning at around 3 am when the bus was travelling on National Highway 44, Beechupally, Itikyal Mandal, Jogulamba Gadwal District.

The bus with 34 passengers on board was travelling to Chittoor from Hyderabad and most of them were going home for Sankranthi.

According to reports, the bus belongs to Jagan Travels. As per preliminary information, the driver became drowsy, lost control and rammed into a divider, resulting in the accident. The bus immediately burst into flames.

While most of them made it out with the help of people on the road who broke the windows to help people escape, Malathi couldn’t get out in time.
