Encroachments and environmental issues at Kamuni Cheruvu, Turka Cheruvu; HYDRAA orders restoration

Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath on Wednesday ordered the development of Kamuni Cheruvu and Turka Cheruvu after conducting field-level inspections in response to complaints received through Prajavani.
Interacting with residents, the Commissioner reviewed civic, environmental and land-related issues and directed officials to take immediate corrective measures.
Pollution due to sewage inflow at Kamuni Cheruvu
Residents of areas along the Bharath Nagar–Khaitalapur–HITEC City Road informed the Commissioner that Kamuni Cheruvu had become highly polluted due to sewage inflow, resulting in foul smell, mosquito menace and health problems.
They also raised concerns over encroachments around the lake.
After inspecting the lake’s inlets and outlets, the Commissioner instructed officials to remove encroachments and immediately commence lake restoration and development works.
Graveyard land dispute to be resolved
The Commissioner examined a land dispute between the Water Board and local Muslim residents over a graveyard site. He assured that government land records would be verified and the issue resolved accordingly. Officials were directed to fence the available government land after verification.
Kukatpally layout encroachment complaint
At Shilpa Brindavan Colony in Kukatpally and Shamshiguda, the Commissioner inspected allegations of alteration of an approved HMDA layout and encroachment of adjacent government land. Officials were instructed to ascertain land ownership details and take protective measures, including fencing.

Comprehensive development of Turka Cheruvu
During his inspection of Turk Cheruvu near Bandari Layout in Nizampet, residents complained of sewage inflow, foul smell and mosquito breeding. The Commissioner announced that the 43.50-acre lake would be developed comprehensively.
He said sewage would be diverted, silt removed and beautification works taken up. STPs would be installed to prevent wastewater inflow, and walking tracks, parks and play areas would be developed around the lake.
Support for other lake works
The Commissioner also assured support for the development of Ellamma Kunta on Usha Mullapudi Road between Kukatpally and Jeedimetla. CSR-funded works proposed by Bhavya Constructions will be taken up after the demarcation of the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL).
He further inspected the relocation of fish and meat shops near Pragathi Nagar Cheruvu and stated that development works there would begin soon.
Residents appreciate HYDRAA’s restoration work
Local residents and colony welfare association representatives welcomed the Commissioner by presenting saplings and felicitated him, appreciating HYDRAA’s efforts to protect lakes, public spaces, and government land.
