Hyderabad: Defence Ministry approved the proposal for the construction of elevated corridors on the Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway and Hyderabad-Karimnagar Rajiv Highway to ease traffic movement.

Defence Ministry's approval has put an end to the impasse about the construction of elevated corridors that cross portions of Defence grounds.

This comes after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy asked the Center to approve plans for elevated corridors across defence grounds during a recent meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi. In light of this, the Defence Ministry had issued directives to this effect.

Revanth Reddy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and the officials of defence wing for permitting the construction of corridors that helps the development of Hyderabad city.

The chief minister requested the Defence Minister to allot 83 acres of land for the construction of a six-lane elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to Outer Ring Road Junction on Rajiv Road connecting Hyderabad to Karimnagar-Ramagundam and the construction of entry and exit ramps for a total 11.30 km corridor construction.

Revanth Reddy also urged Rajnath Singh to transfer 56 acres of defence lands for the construction of the corridors on a total length of 18.30 kilometers proposed from Paradise Junction near Kandlakoya to Outer Ring Road on Nagpur Highway (NH-44), out of which 12.68 kilometers will be constructed as a six-lane elevated corridor, with exits and entries in four areas, and Double Decker (for Metro) Corridor in the future.

After the Centre's permission, the transport network will be developed in the North Telangana districts of Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, and Ramagundam. The growing traffic problem in the Secunderabad area will also be solved.

The development of an elevated corridor from Hyderabad to Shamirpet and Hyderabad to Kandlakoya will promote the fast-paced development of the North side of Hyderabad city. All the hurdles for the expansion of the national highways have been removed with the sanction of the defence lands.

He said the arrogant attitude adopted by the previous government stalled the development of the elevated corridors for years. The Chief Minister expressed happiness that the pending issue for the last eight years has been resolved.

“The newly formed government has succeeded in getting approvals in just 80 days and it displayed the sincerity of the government in the development of the state,” Revanth Reddy said.

The chief minister said during his every visit to New Delhi, he submitted a memorandum to the Union Ministers requesting them to address the state issues.

“I am ready to meet anyone to protect the state interests and continue to maintain cordial relations with the Centre for the development of the state. I also made it clear that the interests of the Telangana state are his top agenda regardless of political disputes and party ideologies. As per the instructions of the defence ministry, the state will start the construction of the elevated corridors soon,” Revanth Reddy said.
