Ending suspense, law ministry asks Justice Abhishek Reddy to join Patna HC

Hyderabad: Justice Abhishek Reddy, who has been serving in the Telangana High Court, has been directed to join his duties at Patna High Court.

Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy, a sitting judge in the Telangana High Court, was recently transferred to the Patna High Court.

Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification on Thursday stating that the transfer was made after consultation with the Chief Justice of India and the President.

Background:

Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy, who had been serving as a judge in the Telangana High Court since August 26, 2019, was transferred to the Patna High Court on November 1, 2022, by the Supreme Court Collegium.

The transfer came as a surprise to many in the legal fraternity. It led to protests by the Telangana High Court Advocates Association (THCAA). They accused the Collegium of not being transparent in its decision-making process.

On November 18, 2022, THCAA passed a resolution to abstain from work until the Supreme Court Collegium cancels the transfer of Justice Abhishek Reddy to Patna High Court. They argued that the transfer was uncalled for and accused the Collegium of unfairly targeting the Telangana High Court.

Justice Abhishek Reddy is known for his contributions to the legal system and delivered several landmark judgments during his tenure. Recently, he and Justice Juvvadi Sridevi freed an MLA who was detained under the PD Act.

The reason for his transfer is allegedly over corruption allegations involving land at Vikarabad. Telangana High Court Advocates Association protested against his transfer and demanded his recall.
