92 patients fall ill, 1 dead and 18 moved to OGH due to food poisoning in Erragadda Hospital

Hyderabad: As many as 18 patients from Erragadda Mental Hospital have been shifted to Osmania General Hospital after 92 patients fell ill from food poisoning on June 3. A patient named Karan has died as a result.
The Health Department of Telangana has revoked the contract of the diet contractor, G Jaipal Reddy, with immediate effect.
Dr D Padmaja, deputy civil surgeon, has been asked to report to the public health department, and Dr B Shankar, deputy civil surgeon, has been assigned the duties at the hospital.
What caused the food poisoning?
The food provided by the contractor was contaminated, leading to acute gastroenteritis in 93 patients in the hospital. All of them complained of vomiting and diarrhoea after having lunch on June 3.
Two patients are critical after another patient passed away. The other two patients are undergoing treatment in Osmania General Hospital in the critical care unit.
Police complaint lodged
The hospital has lodged a complaint at the SR Nagar Police Station under Section 194 BNSS.
