Hyderabad: With Lok Sabha elections on the horizon, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) affiliated with the United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (U-FERWAS) are taking proactive steps to encourage residents to participate in the democratic process.
BT Srinivasan, general secretary of U-FERWAS, has outlined a series of activities aimed at promoting voter awareness and engagement among residents.
Administering voter pledge
RWAs are urged to convene special general body meetings to administer voter pledges, emphasising the importance of voting as a civic duty. By rallying residents around this collective commitment, RWAs aim to instil a sense of responsibility and participation in the electoral process.
Updating information about polling
Ensuring that each eligible voter resident has access to their polling station details well in advance is a priority for RWAs. Any issues regarding polling station details are to be addressed promptly, with assistance provided to residents seeking clarification from the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Utilising social media platforms
RWAs are encouraged to leverage their social media presence to amplify messages promoting voter turnout. By disseminating information through colony association social media channels, RWAs aim to reach a wider audience and encourage greater participation in the electoral process.
Selfie challenge on polling day
On polling day, residents are encouraged to participate in a āselfie challengeā initiated by their RWAs. By posting a selfie after casting their vote in WhatsApp groups or personal messages, residents can inspire others to follow suit and exercise their democratic rights.
Support from U-FERWAS
U-FERWAS pledges support to RWAs by providing flyers and materials to facilitate voter awareness activities by the end of the month. These resources aim to further reinforce the message of the importance of voting and encourage maximum participation from residents.
Encouraging participation amid travel plans
Despite the upcoming elections on May 13, many residents have planned foreign trips. However, RWAs emphasised the significance of prioritising voting before travelling, ensuring that their voices are heard in shaping the future of their community and country.
As RWAs across the city embark on these initiatives, the collective efforts of residents and associations alike aim to foster a culture of active citizenship and promote robust democratic participation. Through collaborative endeavours, RWAs are striving to make a meaningful impact on voter turnout and strengthen the democratic fabric of society.
