Hyderabad: On Tuesday, the Telangana High Court Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N Tukaramji issued notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, and managing director, HMDA asking them to list the steps taken to create a robust and concrete drainage system in Hyderabad, so that the residents are not vulnerable to inundation and floods leading to loss of life, property during the rainy season.
During many rainy seasons and floods, Hyderabad has witnessed a loss of life and property as heavy floods barged into residential complexes, malls and roads.
The drainage systems get blocked due to rainwater and the roads get flooded. This leads to people drowning in blocked drainage systems.
While taking up a PIL on the case, the chief justice informed the court of the impending need to create a robust drainage system in Hyderabad as many people including adolescent children have lost their lives due to the fury of rains in the city.
