Explained: Reserved wards for GHMC elections

Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly, on 13 November, passed a Bill providing 50 per cent reservation for women in GHMC. Earlier in 2015, the government had provided 50 per cent reservation for women through an executive order. Amendments have been made to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act 1955 to facilitate the changes.

Women will now get 75 of the 150 divisions in the GHMC. According to the new Bill, reservation on the basis of caste will be accordingly implemented. A total of 62 seats are reserved on the basis of caste, of which 31 will be given to women.

Here is the list of wards reserved for women in the GHMC:

ST: Hastinapuram

SC: Rajendra Nagar, Kavadiguda, Addakatta, Mettuguda, and Bansilalpet.

BC: Ramathapur, Old Malakpet, Talab Chanchalam, Goulipura, Kurmaguda, Kanchanbhagh, Barkas, Nawabsaheb Kunta, Ghansi Bazar, Suleman Nagar, Attapur, Mangalhat, Golkonda, Tolichowli, Asifnagar, Vijayanagar Colony, Ahmadnagar, Malle Palli, Redhills, Golnaka, Mushirabad, Erragadda, Chintal, Bouddhanagar, and Ramgopalpet.

The total electorate for the GHMC polls is 74.04 lakh of whom 38.56 lakh are male, 35. 46 lakh female, and 669 are others. There are 9,248 polling stations in 150 wards.

The State Election Commissioner, C. Parthasarathi, announced the schedule for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls on 17 November. The polls for 150 wards will be held on 1 December and the counting will take place on 4 December.

The nomination papers can be filed from 18 to 20 November. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on 21 November while the final list of the candidates will be published on 22 November.
