Hyderabad: Following a recent accident that left two people seriously injured, HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath conducted an on-site inspection of the deteriorating staircase attached to the Fatehnagar bridge on Tuesday.

The steps, which had collapsed while being used, were immediately ordered to be removed due to safety concerns. The incident occurred on Monday when the deteriorated stairs gave way, resulting in injuries to pedestrians.

During his visit, the commissioner has directed authorities concerned to conduct an inspection of similar ageing structures across the city with the help of civil engineering experts, to prevent accidents before they occur.

Fatehnagar corporator promises new stairs

Ranganath was informed by locals that the staircase sees heavy foot traffic, particularly on Sundays during the Sanathnagar weekly market. Acknowledging the potential danger, Commissioner Ranganath deemed the structure unsafe and instructed officials to remove it entirely.

Acting on his orders, the HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Team used a JCB to demolish the damaged staircase. Fatehnagar Corporator Satish Goud, who was present at the site, assured that new stairs would be constructed soon to restore safe pedestrian access.
