Hyderabad: Shock and anger have swept across Hyderabad after a 10-year-old boy was set ablaze by his alcoholic father at KPHB on Sunday night.
The boy received more than 50 percent burns and is battling for life, police said. An attempt to murder case has been registered against the boy's father Balu. The boy is undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital.
According to police, the family is putting up in a hut near Government School at Road No 2 of KPHB. On Sunday night, when the boy identified as Rathlavath Charan was watching television along with his mother, his father Balu asked him to get beedies from a shop.
After the boy bought beedies, he thrashed him black and blue and dragged him out of the house. He abused him saying that the boy was not studying well and not attending tuition regularly.
Further, he emptied a turpentine can on him and set him on fire. The boy ran out for help and jumped in a ditch near the house. Later the flames were doused and he was rushed to the hospital.
