Fearing floods, locals urge HYDRAA to demarcate Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu FTL

Hyderabad: Residents of Ameenpur in Sangareddy district have urged the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to immediately demarcate the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone limits of Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu (lake), citing recurring flooding and loss of property.

Flooding woes trigger appeal

The residents told officials that the water level in Ameenpur Lake has been rising year after year, resulting in houses and residential plots getting inundated during monsoon spells. They demanded a clear identification of the FTL and buffer boundaries to ensure justice to affected families.

A large number of residents attended Monday’s Prajavani programme and submitted written representations, seeking protection of their properties in the wake of the government’s decision to develop the lake.

Demand for protection or alternative sites

Pointing out that several plots and houses were lost due to the proposed lake development works, the residents requested the authorities to safeguard affected families. In cases where protection is not feasible, they urged the government to allot alternative sites.

Complaints from other areas

Apart from Ameenpur, HYDRAA’s Prajavani received multiple complaints from across Rangareddy district:

Alleged encroachment of public spaces

Residents of Sabari Hills Layout in Pedamberpet village complained that lands earmarked for roads and public utilities were being encroached upon.

In Chandanagar’s Citizens Colony, locals alleged that a park approved in a HUDA-sanctioned layout was illegally occupied and being used as a garbage dumping yard by a trader.

They further complained that roads were encroached upon and temporary sheds were erected for commercial activities. Representatives of the Citizens Colony Welfare Association submitted a formal complaint seeking immediate action.

Parks and lakes under threat

Residents of Sanjeevani Hills in Hyderguda, Rajendranagar mandal, alleged that a park was being encroached upon by demolishing its boundary wall and constructing a society building, leading to a sharp decline in green cover. They appealed to HYDRA to protect the park and preserve it as a vital green lung for the locality.

Separately, members of the Kakatiya Welfare Association raised concerns over Bairamalaguda Lake near L.B. Nagar. Spread over about 6.30 acres, the lake was sanctioned Rs 5 crore for development, but works have allegedly remained stagnant for the past five years.

As a result, untreated drainage water is flowing directly into the lake, causing severe pollution and posing health risks to nearby residents. They sought HYDRA’s intervention for immediate rejuvenation of the lake.

43 complaints received

HYDRAA officials said a total of 43 complaints were received during Monday’s Prajavani. HYDRAA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath personally reviewed the representations and directed the concerned departments to take responsibility for redressal and follow-up action.
