Hyderabad: FedEx, the global express transportation company, has issued a public advisory warning against fraudulent activities involving the impersonation of its employees in India. The company highlighted that scammers are falsely claiming to represent FedEx and are using deceptive tactics to defraud individuals.

How the scam works

According to FedEx, fraudsters contact victims and falsely inform them that their parcels contain illegal items. The victims are then connected to individuals posing as law enforcement officials, who threaten legal action or digital arrest unless immediate payments are made. Once the money is transferred, the scammers disappear, leaving the victims at a loss.

FedEx clarifies its position

The company emphasised that it does not request personal information such as account credentials or identity details through unsolicited mail, emails or text messages.

The company urged the public to be cautious of calls or messages claiming to represent courier services or law enforcement officials demanding payments.

Safety tips to avoid scams

FedEx provided the following guidelines to help individuals stay protected from such fraudulent activities:

Stay Alert: Be cautious of unexpected communications claiming to represent FedEx or other courier services.

Verify Before You Act: Always cross-check suspicious messages or calls with official customer service channels.

Avoid Hasty Payments: Never transfer money or share personal information without verifying the source.

Report Incidents: Contact law enforcement or report scams through 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.

Reporting and prevention

FedEx advised individuals to report such scams immediately through the Cyber Crime Helpline via 1930 or the official website cybercrime.gov.in.
