Firecracker bursting fallout: 40 eye injury cases reported to Hyd's Sarojini Devi Hospital
Doctors said cases of eye injuries have been on a rise because of bursting crackers in the last two days

Dr. Najafi Begum, Civil Surgeon RMO of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital said that 40 cases have been reported on Monday. "Out of the 40 cases, 19 were admitted out of which seven were seriously injured. The remaining 21 patients were consulted in OP (out-patient) and discharged," she said
Dr.Najafi also pointed out that most of the admitted patients were children. "Out of 19 patients, 15-16 were children," she said.
On Sunday, the hospital received cases of eye injuries due to the bursting of crackers. "On Sunday, we received around 3 cases, out of which 2 were treated in OP and one was admitted," she added.
Dr. Rajalingam of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital said that four patients had suffered serious injuries and required multiple surgeries for their vision to be restored. "The other cases were related to external burns like burns on the lashes and so on," he explained.
Dr. Rajalingam added that they were expecting cases today also, not just from the city but also from other districts as the cracker celebrations continue on the morning of Tuesday as well.
