Hyderabad: The South Central Railway on Tuesday announced that the multi-modal transport service (MMTS) first-class fare has been reduced by up to 50%. The ministry of Railways has decided to rationalise the basic fares of first-class in the suburban train services with effect from 5 May 2022. Accordingly, the first-class base fares for single journeys for the passengers travelling in the MMTS trains over suburban sections of Secunderabad and Hyderabad divisions has been reduced.
South Central Railways has been progressively increasing the number of MMTS services for the benefit of suburban passengers since the resumption of the train services after the COVID lockdown. Currently, 86 services are being operated across a stretch of 50 km, spread over the sections of Falaknuma- Secunderabad-Hyderabad-Begumpet-Lingampally-Tellapur-Ramachandrapuram covering 29 railway stations. The services have been planned to cater to the travel needs of all the passengers duly taking into account the peak hour traffic across different stations. The reduction of the fare is further expected to benefit passengers by making available a fast and cheap transport means for suburban passengers of the twin city region.
Arun Kumar Jain, the general manager (in-charge) of SCR, has appealed to the passengers to avail of this benefit. He said that with the summer season setting in and with the gradual increase in the MMTS passengers, this reduction in fare will immensely benefit the first-class segment of passengers availing of these services.
