Flood threat: Telangana HC asks govt to take measures to prevent loss of life, property
According to the latest communique issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, the floods will again hit Telangana in a very short period.

According to the latest communique issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, the floods will again hit Telangana in a very short period. IMD has issued a warning about the impending floods. It alerted the state to make all arrangements in advance to avert loss of life, and property. The state has already witnessed huge loss of life, and property in the State due to recent floods.
Chikkudu Prabhakar, Counsel for the petitioner in the PIL informed the Court that the IMD has issued an alert to the Telangana about the impending floods. Given that alert, the counsel prayed the court to issue a direction to the State to take all preventive measures to avert any sort of loss of life and property.
Harender Pershad, Special.GP informed the Court that the state is taking all steps to extend medical aid, relocating the flood-affected persons to safer places, paying ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased persons, etc.
He informed the Court that out of the 49 families, the state has paid ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh to 23 families and effort is on to identify the remaining. He assured the Court that the ex-gratia and other help would be extended to them.
The court was adjudicating the PIL filed by Dr.Cheruku Sudhakar seeking directions to the Union of India and the TS government to pay compensation, ex-gratia to the family members of all those deceased farmers and citizens, who lost their lives due to heavy floods in 2020 and also in the recent floods 2023.
During the heavy floods that hit Telangana in 2020 and 2023, the farmers and citizens of almost all the districts lost their crops. Several lives were also lost.
The matter has been adjourned to August 22.
