Food safety raids: Pizza Hut, Domino’s outlets caught with hygiene, license lapses in Telangana

Hyderabad: A massive inspection drive by the Telangana Food Safety Department has uncovered widespread violations in popular pizza chains and local outlets across the State.

The checks, led by the Food Safety Task Force along with Gazetted Food Inspectors (GFIs) and Food Safety Officers (FSOs), covered outlets in Greater Hyderabad and various districts.

55 outlets inspected

As part of the exercise, officials inspected 55 pizza outlets, including 18 Pizza Hut outlets, 16 Domino’s outlets and 21 local pizzerias and bakeries.

Pizza Hut: 8 outlets found violating norms

Out of 18 Pizza Hut branches, eight were found non-compliant.

GHMC limits: License and jurisdiction mismatches, improper veg/non-veg storage, and calibration not done.

Kazipet (Hanumakonda): Machinery and equipment not cleaned.

Warangal: Medical certificates issued without proper examination.

Nizamabad: License not displayed, freezers not at the required temperature, and cleaning log missing.

Nalgonda: License absent, dustbins without lids, sauce bottles without ‘use by’ date.

Domino’s: 10 outlets flagged

Of 16 Domino’s outlets inspected, 10 had serious lapses.

GHMC limits: Licenses not displayed, expired license in Nizamabad, overdue pest control, gloves/masks not used and calibration records missing.

Subedari (Hanumakonda): Machinery not cleaned, records absent, pest control overdue and no medical checks for new staff.

Warangal: Food handlers not wearing gloves/masks, medical certificates issued without proper checks.

Nizamabad: Expired license displayed, no medical records maintained.

Mahabubnagar: No segregation of veg/non-veg, medical records missing, food handlers without gloves.

Local Pizzerias: 6 outlets are non-compliant

Among 21 independent outlets, six were found flouting safety norms.

Pizza Paradise (Hyderabad): No license displayed, no medical certificates, overused oil, unlabelled ingredients, rusty ovens, open kitchen without an insect-proof mesh.
