Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has warned transgender community against forced collections and public harassment.
He said the police will not hesitate to take stringent legal action against any trans people for harassing others.
Addressing nearly 250 transgender persons at a special interactive meeting, Sajjanar urged them to utilise government welfare opportunities and work towards leading a respectable and secure life within society.
The meeting was organised by Hyderabad City Police at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Ameerpet, with senior officers, including CID & Women Safety Additional DGP Charu Sinha, in attendance.
Rise in complaints from public
Commissioner Sajjanar expressed concern over the increasing number of complaints relating to harassment by transgender groups, especially demands for money during house visits and celebrations.
“Such forced collections are unacceptable. If anyone takes the law into their hands, we will not hesitate to send them to jail. Criminal cases will damage your future. Do not trouble innocent citizens,” he warned.
He also highlighted frequent group disputes and power struggles within the community, which have led to law-and-order issues and even fatal incidents, urging them to maintain peace.
