Hyderabad: Telangana High Court issued notices to the Secretary, the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi, the Secretary Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, and others after Telangana Jana Samithi filed a PIL seeking directions to declare frequent inundation of various districts as a national disaster.
The court also issued notices to the Secretary Ministry of Jalshakti Sram New Delhi, the Member Secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi, the Chief Secretary Telangana government, and the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh government.

He had sought a direction to declare the frequent inundation of various districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh due to the frequent Godavari river floods between the Kaleshwaram Project and the Polavaram Project as a National Disaster. He has also prayed for constituting expert committee to enumerate the damage caused due to the construction of the Kaleshwaram Project. He has also sought compensation for the victims and the construction of suitable embankments/protection walls at Mancherial, and Bhadrachalam towns.
The counsel for the petitioner informed the court that this PIL petition was filed before the Supreme Court, which, after hearing the counsel, directed the petitioner to approach the High Court of Telangana. Accordingly, the petitioner approached the Telangana High Court with the PIL.
The counsel for the petitioner informed the Court that due to the construction of the Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project in Telangana and the Polavaram Irrigation Project in AP, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Peddapalli and Komaram Bheem, Mulugu districts face inundation resulting in loss of crops.
He said both states have not taken any concrete preventive measures to thwart such frequent inundation of various districts in the AP and Telangana.
The court adjourned the PIL by 4 weeks.
