Hyderabad: After a day’s break, Hyderabad witnessed another spell of moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday night.

Rainfall Concentrated in Medchal-Malkajgiri

According to Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) data, rainfall between 20 mm and 52 mm was recorded in areas under the Greater Hyderabad limits. The highest totals were reported from Jeedimetla (52 mm), followed by Shapurnagar (48.5 mm), Rajiv Gruhakalpa, Kukatpally (48.3 mm), and Qutbullapur–Gajularamaram (46 mm).

Other notable figures include Shamshiguda, Kukatpally (43.8 mm), Gayatri Nagar ward office, Qutbullapur (41.3 mm), and Kukatpally Basthi Dawakhana (38.8 mm).

Neighbouring areas such as Patancheru, Alwal, Serilingampally, Balanagar, Ramchandrapuram, Kapra, Marredpally, and Malkajgiri also saw steady rainfall.

Limited Impact Due to Holiday

The rain coincided with the 79th Independence Day national holiday, which kept traffic light across the city. While some main roads experienced waterlogging, the overall disruption was minimal as fewer people were outdoors.

Speaking to Newsmeter meteorologist K. S. Sridhar said ā€œThe rainfall was mainly due to moisture-laden winds interacting with a weak trough over Telangana. The activity was patchy through the day but intensified in the evening, particularly in the northwestern parts of the city.ā€

Weekend Forecast: August 16–17

The IMD Hyderabad centre has issued the following forecast:

• Saturday, August 16: Light to moderate rain in most parts of the city, with isolated heavy spells likely in Serilingampally, Qutbullapur, and Balanagar. Maximum temperature around 29°C, minimum 22°C. Humidity expected to remain above 80%.

• Sunday, August 17: Cloudy skies with scattered light rain across the city. Heavier rainfall possible in the evening hours in areas adjoining Medchal-Malkajgiri. Maximum temperature around 28°C, minimum 22°C.

Sridhar added ā€œWhile the rainfall over the weekend is expected to be less intense than Friday night’s spell, isolated heavy showers cannot be ruled out, especially in the north and northwest sectors of the city.ā€
