From mosquitoes to traffic congestion, Attapur locals demand GHMC action on rising civic mess

Hyderabad: Mounting civic issues in Laxmi Nagar Colony and surrounding areas of Attapur have prompted intervention from the GHMC, as residents raised serious concerns over mosquito breeding, street dog menace, illegal garbage dumping and traffic congestion.

During a field visit, GHMC commissioner RV Karnan met with members of the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) from Laxmi Nagar and neighbouring colonies under the Rajendranagar Circle.

Rampant dumping of waste in Musi

The residents complained of deteriorating civic conditions, including poor street lighting and rampant dumping of waste and construction debris along the Musi riverbed during night hours, which they say is creating health and environmental hazards.

One of the most pressing concerns was the persistent traffic congestion from Attapur Main Road (Pillar No. 119) to Bapu Ghat Road. Locals urged the GHMC to initiate road-widening measures and enforce bans on single-use plastic, especially among local vendors.

Commissioner Karnan responded by instructing officials to intensify fogging operations to control mosquito populations and ensure that sanitation efforts are carried out in coordination with local RWAs.

Open gym at Laxmi Nagar Park

He stressed that environmental protection is a shared responsibility between the administration and the community. As part of improving public amenities, he also approved the establishment of an open gym at Laxmi Nagar Park.

The commissioner directed all departments to act promptly on the grievances and assured continuous monitoring to track progress. He also reaffirmed GHMC’s commitment to addressing urban challenges and improving the quality of life through citizen engagement and responsive governance.
