Front-facing to metro-like side-facing: TSRTC changes bus seating to avoid congestion

Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has made a strategic change in the seating arrangement of its buses.

The new arrangement transitions from traditional front-facing seats to metro-like side-facing seats.

This move aims to alleviate congestion and enhance aisle space, allowing for an additional 25 passengers on each bus.

Babu Mohan, representing the general administration department of TSRTC, said the surge in passenger numbers, particularly in Hyderabad following the Mahalakshmi Scheme launch, has led to increased congestion and made it challenging for bus conductors to navigate the narrow aisles efficiently.

"It has not only led to congestion but has become inconvenient for bus conductors to move along the aisle. So we decided to make more room in aisle space by changing seating from 'front-facing seats' to metro-like bench side-facing seats," Mohan stated.

The modified seating arrangement has been implemented in six buses at the TSRTC Cantonment Bus Depot, including buses 47L, 20P, 23GF, 24B, 107VR, and 107JS, all serving routes from the CNT Depot. Mohan further disclosed that the plan is to extend these changes to all buses operating within Hyderabad.

"With the new seating changes, we can accommodate 25 more passengers in an RTC bus," Mohan highlighted, underscoring the practical benefits of this adjustment.
