Gachibowli: MANUU students protests ‘unhygienic mess, misconduct by proctor’

Hyderabad: Students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), a Central university in Gachibowli, have been staging a protest since Thursday afternoon, voicing their concerns over unhygienic conditions in the campus mess and demanding the resignation of the university Proctor, who has been accused of misbehaving with students.

The protest, which began in front of the administration building, continued through the night, with students maintaining a peaceful sit-in despite the heavy presence of police deployed to monitor the situation.

‘Basic hygiene is missing’

Talha Mannan, a student leader, highlighted the core issues: “We are not asking for anything unreasonable. Basic hygiene in the mess is a necessity, not a luxury. The administration has repeatedly ignored our complaints, and now we demand action.”

Another student, Ayesha Khan, expressed her frustration with the situation: “The food we are served is often stale, and the mess is filthy. We’ve had several cases of students falling ill, yet nothing has been done to improve the conditions. How can we focus on our studies when our health is at risk?”

Misconduct of proctor

Students also called attention to the alleged misconduct of the Proctor. Ahmed Sheikh, a second-year student, said, “The proctor has been disrespectful towards us on multiple occasions. We cannot accept this kind of behaviour from someone who is supposed to ensure our well-being. He needs to be held accountable.”

The demonstrators are adamant that the protest will continue until their demands are met. “We are prepared to escalate this protest if necessary. We urge the administration to sit down with us and discuss a solution,” added Mannan.

As of now, the university administration has not issued an official statement in response to the protest. However, students are calling for immediate dialogue to resolve the issues in a peaceful manner.
