Hyderabad: In a unique farewell event, Game Set Celebrate! is how the Indian icon will end her career in Hyderabad, where it all began. Sania Mirza, one of India's most successful tennis players, will end her magnanimous professional career of over 20 years with an exhibition match in her hometown of Hyderabad on March 5, Sunday. She inspires millions of aspiring athletes and is an icon of camaraderie for the global sports fraternity.
Sania and Bethanie Mattek-Sands visited the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy (SMTA) as a warm-up for the exhibition match. When Sania moves on to the next phase of her life, SMTA will become a focal point for her. She believes it would help develop and encourage the next generation of Indian talent.
During the exhibition match on Sunday, Grand Slam champions such as Rohan Bopanna, Ivan Dodig, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Cara Black, Marion Bartoli, and Sania Mirza will compete in the exhibition match. The exhibition match will be held on March 5 at 10 am at the LB Tennis Stadium in Hyderabad. Tickets are now on sale through PAYTM Insider.
"I have achieved more than I could have ever anticipated in my career, and I am grateful for every minute on the court," an emotional Sania Mirza said during her warm-up session.
"I always wanted to play and show my appreciation by playing my final match in front of my home audience in Hyderabad. Coming full circle at the beginning has been a personal fairy tale. I hope my journey and experience will encourage and inspire athletes worldwide to pursue their dreams and work hard to attain their objectives. I am excited and looking forward to the next phase of my life, where I will share my experience and knowledge of the sport to nurture the future generation of athletes and continue to be a role model for Indian women," Sania added.
