Hyderabad: A total of 1.40 lakh Ganesh idols were immersed from the 3rd to the 11th day of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The officials mentioned that 1.20 lakh idols were immersed in baby ponds and other small lakes.
However, going by the online registrations, only 12,030 idols were registered in Hyderabad City. Of these, 7,330 idols were immersed on the days leading up to the main immersion, leaving 4,700 idols to be immersed during the main event. However, of these, 900 idols are still at Necklace Road for immersion.
Immersion process this year
The Ganesh immersion procession continued for almost 40 hours.
This year, the procession was slightly delayed as some idols were taller than 40 feet. The police worked for two days without sleep to ensure the immersion was completed peacefully. Surveillance was maintained using nine drones and cameras on 35 high-rise buildings.
The immersion was completed ahead of schedule with the cooperation of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samithi members. The successful immersion was made possible by the coordination between our Central Zone Police and various government departments like GHMC, Revenue, Electricity, RTA and HMDA.
Disputes during immersion
Five cases were registered regarding minor disputes during the immersion procession. The police also arrested 170 people for misbehaving with women and several others in pickpocketing cases. The commissioner stated that the number of crimes has decreased compared to last year.
The Ganesh idol immersion program is still ongoing.
Traffic diversions are in place
CV Anand, IPS, DG and Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, stated that the immersion will be considered complete only after the traffic diversions are entirely removed.
He said that even though some pandal organisers started their processions late, all idols were successfully sent to Hussain Sagar. He explained that the immersion would continue now without any inconvenience to the public.
On behalf of the Hyderabad City Police, he thanked the public, the Ganesh Utsav Samithi and the mandap organisers for ensuring that the Ganesh immersion in Hyderabad took place peacefully.
