Gang barge into Kukatpally man's house, attack him; calls to police ignored

“We opened the gates and the men removed the pandals. A few men came up and began banging the door hard. We didn’t open the door and they went down and threw stones at our home. We still didn’t open and they started abusing us and entered our house by climbing the wall,” Kiran said.

Hyderabad: At 3: 18 a.m on Sunday, Prabhu Kiran, a resident of Kukatpally Phase 2's Allwyn Colony, got a call from his neighbour Banda Shiva to open the house gates so that a pandal near his house could be demolished.

Kiran stays with his mother on the second floor as a tenant in a three-storey house. However, his mother was not in town that day. Kiran's friend Arun Mishra was at the house.

"We opened the gates and the men removed the pandals. A few men came up and began banging the door hard. We didn't open the door and they went down and threw stones at our home. We still didn't open and they started abusing us and entered our house by climbing the wall," Kiran said.

Arun said the men seemed to be under the influence of alcohol. "A group of 13-15 men began banging on the iron gate below. They kept threatening me and asked me to come down," he said.

Prabhu and Arun locked themselves in and dialled 100 at 3:35 a.m. The call didn't connect. They tried again and after two attempts, they were connected at 3:40 a.m. The person on the other end of the phone assured Kiran that their issue had been noted and that the police were on their way.

Meanwhile, the men jumped the main gate and came upstairs and began banging on Prabhu's doors and windows.

At 3:44 am, Kiran and Arun dialled 100 again. This time the caller assured them that the police were on their way.

Kiran called his house owner who stays on the third floor. He came down and asked the men to leave. The men hit the owner with sticks and injured him.

"The police never came but the men broke into their house and began hitting them with sticks and stones. They also had rods and knives," Arun said.

Kiran said the men broke his TV and damaged his furniture as well. He alleged that the men were with the neighbour who called him. "Had the police come at night, maybe the damage would have been a tad bit less," Arun said.

After the men left, the two friends headed to a nearby hospital (N Care Sumana Hospitals) where Arun got 10 stitches on his head and Prabhu got treated for his injuries. The two then went to Jagadgirigutta police station in the morning and registered a complaint. The police visited the crime scene and inquired about the incident with the neighbours.

Arun has named Banda Shiva, Bullet Venkat, Illiyaz, Sai Nagar Shiva, and the gang in his complaint to the police. He also said that Banda Shiva told them jail was not new to him and he threatened them by saying he would offer bribes to the local police and escape from this.
