Hyderabad: To popularize motorsports in India, electric car racing is the way forward. The goal is to nurture talent in terms of engineers and drivers who will contribute to this sport.
Mahindra Racing CEO Dilbagh Gill says, "In the next one year we will be planning the electric races with junior championships and scouting for talent both in terms of drivers and engineers. We are also looking to provide scholarships to young talent in this field and create avenues for popularizing this motorsport."
Format of the race
There are going to be 10 weeks of racing and two categories. This is designed keeping the driver's talents and also the car prototypes in mind. There is not going to be an upper age limit for the drivers as the technology in electric cars is emerging.
Car prototypes
The car prototypes are made in Spain. There will also be a tie-up with the Government of Telangana to develop some elements in the state. Dilbagh Gill says, "A lot is on the planning stage, and it is going to be clear in the next one year. We are working on drivers, engineers and also motor sport teams. This sport is going to be a part of the Asian circuit as we finalize it."
