Hyderabad: The ever-busy Rasoolpura junction, considered one of the biggest traffic bottlenecks in Hyderabad, is set for a major transformation.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated the process for a new flyover to ease congestion and cut down travel delays.

A key junction under pressure

According to GHMC officials, Rasoolpura is a lifeline for thousands of commuters.

Vehicles heading from Uppal, LB Nagar and Secunderabad towards Punjagutta, Ameerpet, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, as well as those travelling from Minister Road, KIMS, Kawadiguda, Musheerabad and Tank Bund, all pass through this busy stretch.

Despite several flyovers in Secunderabad, traffic inevitably piles up at Rasoolpura, leading to wasted time, fuel costs and commuter frustration.

Project valued at Rs 150 crore

The proposed flyover will cost Rs 150 crore, with Rs 70 crore allocated for land acquisition. It will be built in a Y-shaped design, starting near the HMRL building.

Main carriageway: Four lanes, 14 meters wide

Arm towards Minister Road: Three lanes, 11 meters wide

Arm towards Patigadda Road: Two lanes, 7.5 meters wide

Construction and timeline

The project will be executed under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (HiCITI) initiative, using the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) model. The selected agency must complete the work within two years.

Relief on the horizon

Once the flyover is ready, average vehicle speeds are expected to rise from 40 kmph to 65 kmph. Officials say this will drastically cut congestion and offer smooth passage through one of the city’s busiest traffic junctions.
