GHMC Commissioner assures Telangana HC to protect Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner D. Ronald Rose assured the Telangana High Court that all steps are being taken to ensure that Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu is free from encroachments.
Ronald Rose on Thursday appeared before the division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar and gave the assurance.
He informed the Court that a preliminary notification has been issued and FTL limits of the Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu will be fixed after a period of 30 days. He said the activity of Plantation in the catchment area has already been initiated and it shall be concluded within 2 months
He said GHMC shall ensure that no encroachment is made in and around the water body. He said a total area of 1871 meters in length is required to be fenced. Of these, 400 meters have already been fenced. A proposal will be prepared within one week and sent to the Election Commission of India seeking relaxation so that fencing
Ronald Rose said the work for the desilting to increase the water holding capacity shall also be prepared within a week and forwarded to the ECI for approval. He said work of desilting the water body will commence within a period of 2 months from the date of sanction.
The Commissioner informed the Court that the work of cleaning the garbage in and around the Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu has been taken up and a status report has been submitted in this regard.
After hearing the contentions of Ronald Rose, the Court dispensed his appearance on the next date of hearing. The Court also directed the government pleader for municipal administration to place on record the final notification in relation to the fixing up of the FTL of the Water Body on or before December 28.
The Court was adjudicating the Writ Petition filed by K.L. Vyas, retired professor of Hindi department, Osmania University, Hyderabad, seeking a direction to the state to take steps to protect 532 water bodies in the state, including Ramanthapur Pedda Cheruvu.
