Hyderabad: The merger of 27 municipalities into Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) entered its final administrative phase on Wednesday, with Commissioner RV Karnan initiating record takeover and staff data collection following Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s nod.

Soon after the clearance, the GHMC Commissioner issued special instructions to Deputy Municipal Commissioners to take custody of all official records from the 27 municipalities under the supervision of the respective Zonal Commissioners.

To ensure uniform documentation, officials were also directed to prepare a special record format.

Roles of Zonal, Deputy Commissioners finalised

The GHMC Commissioner issued formal orders defining the duties and supervisory responsibilities of Zonal Commissioners and Deputy Municipal Commissioners in each of the 27 municipalities proposed for merger. These officials will oversee the record transfer, administrative transition, and coordination with existing municipal machinery.

Comprehensive staff details sought from CDMA

To facilitate smooth workforce integration, Commissioner Karnan has written to the Commissioner & Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA), seeking immediate submission of complete employee details from all the 27 municipalities.

The information sought includes sanctioned staff strength, working strength, regular employees, and outsourced personnel. Authorities have been instructed to furnish the data without delay.

Urgency stressed for speedy merger

Emphasising the need for swift action, the Commissioner stated that the staff data is crucial for administrative planning and deployment after the merger. The information will help in restructuring departments and ensuring uninterrupted civic services in the newly added GHMC areas.

Transition process picks up pace

With the issuance of these directions, the administrative transition of the 27 municipalities into GHMC has gained significant momentum. Officials indicated that once records and staff verification are completed, the operational merger is expected to move forward rapidly.
