To regulate the parking fee, the department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department released a government order to prevent the misuse of the parking policy.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 25 Feb 2021 11:57 AM GMTHyderabad: The Directorate of Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management of GHMC has issued a parking policy in Hyderabad and other urban areas of Telangana after many complained about illegal parking charges.
On March 20, 2018, the Telangana government issued an order to regulate parking fees at all commercial establishments. The order said, "As per the building rules, the owner of a commercial establishment has to provide parking to meet the demands of their employees and customers."
To regulate the parking fee, the department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department released a government order to prevent the misuse of the parking policy. "It has come to the notice of the government that a huge parking fee is being collected irrespective of the duration of the parking," said the EV&DM.
The EV&DM had also inspected certain malls and multiplexes and found irregularities such as parking tickets not being issued to the customers, and complete details not being written on the parking ticket such as date and time of parking.
"The department is issuing a format for the parking ticket system in which the name of the agency with the address and mobile number should be invariably be printed on the tickets," said the EV&DM.
According to the format, for parking up to a duration of 30 minutes, no parking fee should be collected. For parking duration up to an hour, parking can be charged or can be free depending on whether the customer produces a bill of shopping done at the commercial establishment during the time of parking. For a parking duration of more than one hour, parking can be free if the customer produces a bill or a movie ticket more than the amount of the parking charge.
Further, the parking ticket should be handed over to the customer even if the parking amount is not applicable. If the fee has been collected, a 'paid' stamp should be marked, and if not 'exempted' should be stamped and handed over to the customer duly with the signature of the in-charge.
The EV&DM has directed the parking agency to start this process within 15 days. The department also said that they will start the inspections and thereafter if the parking policy is seen violated, a penalty of Rs 50,000 per instance will be imposed under Sections 24 and 28 of the Telangana Apartments Act and Rules, 1987.
Instructions are being issued to commercial establishments to ensure adherence to the Parking Policy in the city and to bring in uniform functioning & accountability. Strict enforcement will be done as soon as the process timeline is completed. @arvindkumar_ias @CommissionrGHMC pic.twitter.com/RIrn79sIJh
