Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has partially closed the Masab Tank flyover during nighttime to carry out essential maintenance works.
The flyover, which is one of the cityās busiest, is undergoing repairs. GHMC authorities are replacing strip seal joints to prevent water leakage and ensure structural durability during the monsoon.
Maintenance Work Underway at Night
According to officials from GHMCās Khairatabad Zone, the flyover has been partially closed from 10 PM to 6 AM each night, with permission from the Hyderabad Traffic Police. The works are expected to continue for at least 1.5 months.
āThe maintenance work is crucial to ensure the longevity and safety of the infrastructure, especially during adverse weather conditions,ā said an official.
The flyover, constructed nearly 25 years ago, was designed to ease traffic heading toward Mehdipatnam. It now forms a vital traffic corridor in the city.
Traffic Diversions in Place
To facilitate the maintenance, the Asifnagar Traffic Police have implemented partial traffic diversions.
āAs part of the works, traffic coming from Mahavir Hospital towards NMDC is restricted on the flyover during the night and diverted to the road below,ā said Traffic Inspector S Rao. āHowever, traffic in the opposite direction, from NMDC to Mahavir Hospital, is still allowed on the flyover.ā
Once the maintenance work on one half of the flyover is completed, it will be reopened to traffic while the other side will be taken up for repairs, officials confirmed.
Preventive Work Ahead of Monsoon
The replacement of strip seal joints is part of the annual maintenance plan and aims to prevent water leakages, which could otherwise damage the structure.
GHMC emphasized the importance of this preventive measure, particularly during the rainy season when water seepage poses a threat to infrastructure safety.
Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and cooperate with traffic diversions until the work is completed.
