Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to file counter-affidavits by March 25 in a writ petition challenging the reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation into three separate municipal corporations.

A division bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Ghouse Meera Mohiuddin issued the direction while hearing the petition filed by Daram Guruva Reddy, a resident of Uppal, Hyderabad.

The court directed Advocate General A. Sudershan Reddy, appearing on behalf of the Telangana Government, and the Additional Solicitor General of India, representing the Union Home Ministry, New Delhi, to obtain instructions in the matter.

The petitioner has sought an interim stay on the operation of G.O.Ms. No. 55, dated 11 February 2026, issued by the Telangana government, by which the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been reorganised into three distinct municipal corporations.

The petition further seeks a direction to the State Government to restore and maintain the jurisdictional boundaries of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation as they existed as on 31 December 2025.

The matter has been adjourned to 25 March 2026.
