GHMC to appoint Special Commissioner for lakes
The Special Commissioner for lakes will be responsible for the preparation of master plan, prevention of encroachments and regular cleaning and beautification

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to appoint a Special Commissioner for lakes in order to have a focused approach for the comprehensive management of water bodies.
GHMC area has a total of 185 lakes and water bodies. The net area of many of these water bodies has been reduced due to frequent encroachments. As a result, most of these overflow during heavy rains.

Special Commissioner for lakes will be responsible for the preparation of the master plan, scientifically manage the sewerage, prevent further encroachments, initiate relief and rehabilitation, and regular cleaning and beautification.
Special Commissioner will also be in charge of Hussain Sagar & Water Body Management (HS&WBM).
The order comes a week after Cyclone Gulab subsided in Hyderabad. Hyderabad's Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar had reached the full tank level and Musi River had overflowed.
