By Newsmeter Network Published on 18 May 2024 10:04 AM GMTHyderabad: Gold ornaments worth Rs 7 lakhs have gone missing from passengers’ luggage at RGI Airport in Shamshabad. A case has been registered by the passengers at RGI Airport police station.
A complaint has been filed by Manchi Kutla Hari Sagar, a 43-year-old businessman residing in Khajaguda, Raidurgam, regarding the disappearance of valuable gold ornaments from the luggage of his sister-in-law, Rajini Samala (40) and his mother, Shakunthala (70).
According to RGI Airport police, on May 3, Sagar’s family members embarked on a journey from their residence in Khajaguda to RGI Airport, Shamshabad, to catch connecting flights to Mumbai and subsequently New York. Boarding an Air India flight from RGI Airport to Mumbai, they then transferred to an Air India flight bound for New York on May 4.
Upon arrival in New York, they discovered that a blue-coloured bag containing gold and silver items had been tampered with. Three of the boxes within the bag were found empty, save for earrings in one and various items in a silver box.
Notably, one of the boxes containing gold ornaments and diamond necklaces, totalling approximately 350 grams in weight, was missing. The estimated worth of the missing gold ornaments is Rs 7,00,000.
Sagar, having received this distressing news over the phone, complained to the RGI Airport Police station. Suspecting foul play during their transit at RGI Airport, Sagar has urged the police to take necessary action. A case has been registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and investigations are currently underway, the police said.
