Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy announced that the MMTS suburban services will resume in Hyderabad next week.
MMTS services had been suspended in March last year. For the last few years, MMTS services have been providing the cheapest and safest transportation facility to the lower and middle-class people in the suburbs of Hyderabad. He said public transport has been the lifeline for the poor, middle, and daily wagers. It ran 121 services and had halts at 28 stations and ferry around 1.6 lakh passengers charging only Rs 5 to Rs 15.
In a statement, Kishan Reddy said he took up the matter and requested the Railway Minister to resume MMTS services as he considered that the MMTS was the best and safe mode of transport for the suburban middle-class, small businessmen, students, and private employees.
"In the interest of the health and safety of our people, MMTS services have been halted in Telangana since the pandemic. Considering the prevailing situation, have requested @RailMinIndia Shri @PiyushGoyal to restore MMTS services here, for which approval has been granted [sic]," he tweeted.
